A Really Cold Start
In the middle of India’s big city, it got super cold again on a day without any sunshine. The highest temperature at Safdarjung went down by 4 degrees from the day before, settling at a freezing 13.4 degrees Celsius. Tuesday became the third ‘really cold day’ of the month, and the whole city felt the chill.
Cold Weather Everywhere
Guess what? It wasn’t just cold in one part of the city; it was cold everywhere in Delhi and nearby cities too. All 10 weather stations in the city and those in Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, and Noida recorded ‘really cold’ to ‘cold’ conditions. Some places were a bit warmer, like Pitampura with 14.3 degrees Celsius, while CDO Ghaziabad was the coldest at 12.8 degrees Celsius.
What’s a ‘Cold Day’?
Ever heard of a ‘really cold day’? It’s when the day is super chilly, and the highest temperature is at least 4.5 degrees below normal. For a ‘really, really cold day,’ it needs to be 6.5 degrees below normal, and the night has to be below 10 degrees Celsius. Basically, it’s when the city turns into a winter wonderland, and you need extra layers to stay warm.
What’s Coming Up?
The weather folks gave a heads up for more really cold days in parts of Delhi with a bit of fog on Wednesday morning. They say the temperature might go up a bit, and strong winds might blow away the fog that’s been making everything gloomy and cold.
Cold Streak Continues
On Tuesday, the highest temperature at Safdarjung was the second-lowest in two years, just a bit higher than the 12.5 degrees Celsius last week. The city has been stuck in this cold weather for 12 days straight!
Weather Changes
While the lowest temperature went up a bit on Tuesday (7.7 degrees Celsius, compared to 5.3 degrees Celsius the day before), it was still pretty chilly. At Lodhi Road, the highest temperature was 13.2 degrees Celsius, eight degrees below normal – that’s like a super, super cold day there.
What the Weather Person Says
According to the weather experts, Wednesday might be a bit warmer. They think strong winds will blow away the fog, making the daytime a bit warmer. Rain was a possibility on Tuesday, but it didn’t happen.
Scientific Speak
A scientist named Kuldeep Srivastava said the cold days happened because of fog and cold winds. On Wednesday, there might be a bit of fog in the morning, but strong winds are expected to blow it away, and it might get a bit warmer during the day.
Temperature Check
They’re guessing the highest and lowest temperatures on Wednesday might be around 16 and 8 degrees Celsius, with some places still having really cold days.
Breathing Easy: Better Air?
Even though it’s freezing, the air quality is still in the ‘not great’ category. It’s at 343 on a scale from 0 to 500, a bit better than 345 the day before. The smart people from IITM say it might get a bit better but still not great on Wednesday and Thursday.
In the big story of Delhi’s weather, each day is like a chapter, written in temperatures and how the air feels. As the city deals with the cold days, everyone is hoping for a warmer, clearer chapter soon. The journey goes on, one temperature at a time.
